GFORCE win trophy at HOPE against cancer golf tournament

Added 16 Jul 2012 by GFORCE

Fresh from their success in the Rugby Sevens, Gymphlex have now shown they can turn their hand to golf, with the GFORCE team winning the inaugural charity golf day for HOPE Against Cancer. The GFORCE team looked the part, with their moisture wicking poloshirts and ripstop smock jackets equipping them for the temperamental weather and giving them the protection they needed to beat the other 17 participating teams.

Leicestershire and Rutland’s HOPE Against Cancer is a charity close to the heart of team captain and Gymphlex Managing Director James Greenlees. His Aunt founded the charity almost 10 years ago before she died of cancer, and James is a Trustee. Corinne Green, HOPE's Events Co-ordinator, said;

"We were overwhelmed by the response to our first ever golf day, both in terms of teams and sponsors. Everyone who attended was treated to a variety of fun and enjoyable activities which were all fully sponsored, including Champagne and Smoked Salmon on the 17th tee! The GFORCE team really looked the part, and came home to win in true style, but there was really only one true winner: The HOPE Foundation!"

The first HOPE Golf tournament was a great success, raising over £10,000 which will be used to support cancer research in the Leicester and Rutland region.

HOPE Against Cancer was launched in 2002 to raise funds for research into the causes and treatment of cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was founded in order to fund clinical trials within the region as these are shown to offer proven advantages to cancer patients. Through the enormous generosity of the people of Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond, HOPE Against Cancer has to date raised over £2.4 million which has funded 28 research projects into many cancers including bladder, ovarian, prostate, melanoma, liver, bowel, leukaemia, colorectal and breast cancer together with nursing fellowships relating to patient care.
