Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Floorball has its origin in the Michigan lake district in the 1960’s where a sport called Cosom Hockey was invented. The present type of Floorball was created in Sweden in the 1970’s and has since then spread first in Europe, but also in Asia, Australia and North America. A floorball game is officially played over three periods lasting 20 minutes each and is considered to be the fastest game in the world, the time is stopped in the case of penalties, goals, time-outs and any situation where the ball is not considered to be in play.

The game is classified as a collective ball and goal sport, in which the amount of scored goals in the game time determines the winning team. The goalkeepers stand against shots of a speed up to 200km/h. The abidance of rules is supervised by two referees with equal authority.

For its dynamics and attractiveness thanks to its high tempo, various smart combinations, a high amount of goals and frequent turnover in score, floorball is determined to become one of the most popular sports worldwide. It’s easy to learn, the requirements on equipment are minimal and the rules are simple. The floorball season takes place from September until April.

Floorball will be competed on the 27th at The World Games, to watch the event from the UK you can stream the Olympic Channel through this link: https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/tv/the-world-games-2017-wroclaw/
