Lincoln Disability football celebrates funding boost

Added 21 Mar 2018 by GFORCE

Lincoln Disability Football team is now looking the part thanks to a donation from a unique sporting campaign.

The club has received a brand new kit, worth £750, from the GFORCE Grassroots Campaign which aims to provide financial support to help sports teams and clubs from across the Midlands achieve their aspirations.

Founded in 2013, Lincoln Disability Football Club aims to give people with any disability the opportunity to play football in a safe place and enjoy themselves. The club has grown over the years with now more than five teams and members aged from 10 years old all the way up to adults. All the club staff are volunteers who give up their time to run the teams. And because the club usually relies on freebies and sponsorship for kit, it applied to the Grassroots Campaign for funding so it could get a specialised kit to give them an identity of their own.

Ross Sissons from Lincoln Disability Football Team, said, “Disability football is growing in popularity and we are very proud of our inclusive and supportive ethos here at Lincoln to try and get as many disabled people as possible who are interested in football involved. But it is hard financially because we struggle to make ends meet and that’s why we applied to the GFORCE Grassroots campaign.

“We decided to go for one kit which can be worn by a couple of the teams which I designed myself with help from GFORCE.  This was great as it allowed me to fully customise the kit and choose a different colour scheme which will make us stand out a bit more.

“I am very happy with the kit and it has already received some great feedback. From everyone at the club, we just want to say a huge thank you to GFORCE for the funding and all the help they provided us. It has made a real difference to us.”

Leading sports kit provider, GFORCE Sportswear, launched the Grassroots campaign in 2016 to reinforce its engagement to grassroots sport by setting aside a £5,000 pot of money which organisations across the East Midlands could apply to for grants, with a maximum value of up to £750 per team or club. Following an incredibly successful first year, the campaign was opened up to the entire Midlands area for 2017/18.

Simon Ward, sales director at GFORCE Sportswear, said “We are delighted to support Lincoln Disability Football Club with this donation. The club is doing fantastic work in its local community and everyone involved is working so hard so people with disabilities can enjoy being involved in football.

“The GFORCE Grassroots campaign exists to reward the dedication, passion and success of sports teams and clubs, like Lincoln Disability Football Club, from across the Midlands and it reinforces our commitment to grassroots sport.”
