Nuneaton basketball club slam dunks a new kit!

A community basketball club in Nuneaton is celebrating after netting a new kit, thanks to a donation from a unique sporting campaign.

The newly formed U13s team of the Nuneaton Predators Basketball Club has received a brand new kit, worth £750, from the GFORCE Grassroots Campaign which aims to provide financial support to help sports teams and clubs from across the Midlands achieve their aspirations.

The Nuneaton Predators began three years ago as a community session to give young people in the area a chance to play basketball. Now in its third season, the club has five teams ranging from U13s all the way up to seniors, enabling people of all ages a chance to break away from traditional sports and try something new. And to help the U13s team, who were having to share the U17 and U19 kits, the club applied to the Grassroots Campaign for funding so it could get a specialised kit that fitted properly.

Lloyd Taylor, a coach at the Nuneaton Predators, said: “When we started the club we could have never predicted such popularity for basketball in Nuneaton and we are so proud to be part of the momentum. We applied for the funding from Grassroots so our newest team and youngest players could feel proud to play for Nuneaton Predators and to wear a jersey that was appropriately sized.

“We were part of the design process which was great as we wanted to keep the new kit similar to our other teams to give a sense of unity. We received matching sky blue basketball jerseys and shorts with our logo on the chest. 

“We have had so much great feedback, mainly from the players. They have said how it makes them feel more like a team and that their age groups team is valued more by the club. We would just like to thank GFORCE for providing us with such a lovely kit and giving our U13s team the chance to feel proud to play basketball and be part of Nuneaton Predators Basketball Club.”


Leading sports kit provider, GFORCE Sportswear, launched the Grassroots campaign in 2016 to reinforce its engagement to grassroots sport by setting aside a £5,000 pot of money which organisations across the East Midlands could apply to for grants, with a maximum value of up to £750 per team or club. Following an incredibly successful first year, the campaign was opened up to the entire Midlands area for 2017.
