Corby Dodgeball gets cash boost!

Added 26 Feb 2019 by GFORCE

Corby Dodgeball Club is celebrating after receiving a much needed financial boost from a leading sports kit provider.

The club applied to GFORCE Sportswear’s Grassroots Campaign, which aims to provide financial support to help local sports teams and clubs from across the region achieve their aspirations, to help them create more interest in their adults training sessions, particularly amongst girls and women.

And they were delighted to receive a £400 donation which will be used to creating a new adults team, hold taster sessions that can be advertised properly and cover transport for a squad to attend a regional open tournament and compete in their first event.

Founded in 2012, Corby Dodgeball Club, a community interest company (CIC), was set up by a group of friends who volunteered at a holiday activity day camp. Its aim is to help and educate young people through their leisure time activities to develop physically, mentally and spiritually all centred around the inclusive game of dodgeball. The club has developed recently and now has junior mixed under 11's, under 13's and under 16's age groups which compete at local and regional level tournaments as well as under 9’s and adults which are starting this season.

Carl Page, director of Corby Dodgeball Club, said: "We are so pleased to have received this funding which will allow us to grow our club further, develop our coaches and volunteers and raise the clubs profile within the community.

“We believe passionately in providing more opportunities to promote social inclusion and combat disadvantage, helping raise the aspirations of the community, by building community capacity and raising confidence. We feel our club can play a role in this because dodgeball is a sport really growing in popularity both at grassroots level but also at senior level with the introduction of a GB Dodgeball Team which will compete in the World Championships in 2019. So it’s a great time for our sport.

“This funding will help us in the community to run regular sporting opportunities for the adult population in a new and exciting sport. It all helps to keep the club moving forward so it’s exciting times ahead!”

After two successful years in which GFORCE Sportswear’s Grassroots Campaign made 12 donations at a total of £10,000 to clubs and teams across the Midlands the company has again set aside a £5,000 pot of money for 2018 reinforcing its commitment to grassroots sport.

Simon Ward, sales director at GFORCE Sportswear, said: "We are thrilled to be able to support Corby Dodgeball Club which is obviously doing such great things for its local community and really making a positive impact. We wish them all the very best as they look to grow the club and raise the profile of Dodgeball which is a fantastic sport to be part of.

"Our company has a strong history of supporting the local community and we can't wait to give out more grants as part of this campaign over the next few months."
