Dennis Compton: One of England’s greatest sportsmen

Added 19 May 2014 by GFORCE

We take a look at one of England’s greatest Cricketers and footballer, Dennis Compton (23rd may 1918 - 23 April 1997 aged 78).

A right-handed batsman, Compton is regularly credited as one of England's most remarkable batsmen. He is one of only seventeen players to have scored over one hundred centuries in first-class cricket. Dennis spent his whole cricket career with Middlesex where he scored an incredible 44749 points in Test First-Class matches. With a combined total of 140 centuries!

Dennis also played football for 14 years at Arsenal F.C. However he was only able to notch up 54 appearances, scoring 15 goals due to his commitment to Cricket.

In 1947 Dennis chose to represent Gymphlex whilst playing for England and did so in style. He thrilled a war-weary English public by breaking record after record in scoring 3816 runs; 18 centuries.
