Nottingham football club nets cash boost

Added 26 Feb 2019 by GFORCE

A football club in Nottingham has scored a much needed funding boost from a leading sportswear provider.

St Ann's and Sneinton Football Club (SAS FC) has been given £500 from the Grassroots Campaign being run by GFORCE Sportswear, which aims to help local sports teams and clubs from across the Midlands to achieve their aspirations.

SAS FC is based in one of the most deprived areas of the city and was founded with the intention of providing a safe environment for its members, as well as making sure there was a low cost and completely inclusive way for members of the community to play football.

It began back in 2007 with just two teams but now, 11 years later, there are nine boys’ teams and a girls’ team being run by the club. SAS FC is also introducing a Soccer School to engage with the younger members of the community, and it is hoping to create a mentoring programme for the older children to gain a young leadership award, with the hope that they will eventually find a pathway into coaching.

The money provided by GFORCE will go towards new equipment to help continue this expansion and will help to make sure SAS FC can continue to provide quality football education for its area.

Carla Wells, from SAS FC, said: "The funding that GFORCE has kindly awarded us will be used to provide training equipment for all teams across our club, so will benefit all children within our set-up. Our managers are extremely excited about this, and the funding will put to good use.

"St Ann's and Sneinton would like to take this opportunity to thank GFORCE for providing us with this opportunity to keep expanding our football provision and helping us to be a better environment for our members than ever!"

GFORCE Sportswear’s Grassroots Campaign has made 12 donations at a total of £10,000 to clubs and teams across the Midlands over the last two years. The company has again been distributing a £5,000 pot of money throughout 2018 as it reinforces its commitment to grassroots sport.

Simon Ward, sales director at GFORCE Sportswear, said: "We are delighted to be able to support St Ann's and Sneinton FC as they work hard to give young members of their community an opportunity to do what they love and play football in an inclusive and barrier-free zone. Best of luck to everybody at the club with their new ventures and we hope the money proves useful in making these a true success!
